Feb. 11: Rally to Stop Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining!

We knew it would not be easy stopping mountaintop removal coal mining, but we are building a movement to stop the destruction of our Appalachian Mountains and streams. We need your help!

On Thursday, Feb. 11, join the Sierra Club and the Wise Energy Coalition in a rally to stop mountaintop removal and support Sen. Ticer’s Stream Saver Bill, SB564, which prohibits the dumping of coal waste and spoils into our streams.

The rally at the Capital Bell Tower (9th and Franklin) in Richmond starts at 3pm followed by a legislative hearing at 4pm in the General Assembly Building (within walking distance of the rally).

Exactly why do we rally?

67 Virginia mountains blown apart, 151 miles of Virginia streams destroyed, 156,000 acres of Appalachian forests clearcut. Homes and communities destroyed or flooded, wells contaminated. This devastation must stop!

Your Senators are already hearing from the coal industry. It’s time for them to hear from you!

We just learned that coal companies are sending busloads of coal supporters to Richmond for this hearing on mountaintop removal on February 11. We need to make sure we turn out our supporters. So far over 100 people have registered. Our goal is 200 supporters. Can we count on you?
