Tell MMS to Stop Atlantic Drilling Program, Fast-Track Wind Instead!

BREAKING: Thanks everyone for submitting comments. Last yesterday the DOI has decided to re-open the comment period following assessment of the BP disaster. If
you submitted comments, they will be rolled over to the new comment period.

While we applaud President Obama’s decision to cancel Virginia’s lease sale, we are not out of the woods on drilling. Virginia, along with our Atlantic coast neighbors from Delaware south, is still enrolled in a leasing program that could allow drilling as close as three miles off our coast and our Chesapeake Bay.

Tell the Feds to cancel the Atlantic drilling program.

Literally blown out of the water is any myth previously perpetuated by Big Oil that technology has made offshore drilling “environmentally safe”. Also clearly illuminated by the Gulf Coast disaster is the all too cozy relationship between the Federal regulatory body, Mineral Management Service (MMS), and Big Oil.

For years, the oil industry has raked in the highest profits in the world, successfully lobbied for loopholes, and wrote its own safety regulations. Their agenda became status quo and too many in Washington succumbed to it. We cannot let this happen again.

MMS needs to hear from you ASAP!

This totally co-opted Federal agency is the same agency pushing forward on new and expanded drilling in the Atlantic! Public comments on this proposed drilling are due this Wednesday, June 30. Please ACT TODAY!

Tell MMS to focus on wind instead!

MMS is wasting precious time and resources should it press on with opening up the Atlantic coast to drilling. Not only is this agency in need of reform, but it is also the agency responsible for administering offshore wind development! That is where they need to focus their attention, not on expanded drilling!
