Take Action on the Bay!

Fighting for Virginia’s Waterways – Get Involved Today!

Virginia is home to many majestic waterways. From the nation’s first river, the James, to the York, Rappahannock, Potomac and Rivanna Rivers the Commonwealth has some of the most beautiful rivers in the country. Unfortunately, years of pollution have left these great waters and the Chesapeake Bay in a state of decline.

For far too long, Virginia has relied on voluntary measures to clean our waterways – and enough is enough. Those who pollute our rivers, lakes and streams should be held accountable for their actions. We have the opportunity to finally ensure clean water in Virginia through the upcoming Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL), the pollution diet for our waterways. Unfortunately, the McDonnell Administration is committed to maintaining the status quo.

The McDonnell administration submitted a road map to a clean and healthy Chesapeake Bay that lacks direction for us to achieve clean water. It lacks sufficient regulation, provides no new mechanism or funding proposals for the bay and does not even acknowledge the need to clean Virginia’s waterways. Instead, the McDonnell administration strikes a defiant tone implying that it is the federal government’s responsibility to protect our water.
