NoVA: Win a Home Energy Makeover and $ Prize for Sierra Club
The nonprofit Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP-VA) is partnering with local governments and credit unions, the Dominion Foundation, the State Corporation Commission, and the Northern Virginia Regional Commission to launch a Home Energy Makeover Contest for northern Virginia residents. Three grand prize winners will receive comprehensive energy assessments and energy improvements for their home valued at $10,000, $5,000, and $3,000. There will also be six randomly selected entries who will receive free comprehensive home energy performance assessments ($500 value). The contest opens August 1 and closes September 21, 2012.

Not only will you have a chance to win an energy makeover as a homeowner, but the Sierra Club can win directly too – for we are participating in LEAP’s Nonprofit Challenge, a contest within the contest designed to further spread this important message.
On the Contact Form is a coupon code box where you should type “HEMC SIERRA” so that LEAP knows you are a member. The Sierra Club is hoping to win the Nonprofit Challenge for our budget-tier and receive a cash donation from LEAP and the Dominion Foundation of $1500 as a result. The more contestants we bring, the better our chances of winning (there is no obligation to your entry). We have 6,000 members in our two northern Virginia groups – so let’s demonstrate our commitment by taking first place on this Challenge!
Entry into the contest is a good idea for another reason. Contest entrants will be eligible for special discounts on goods and services for energy improvements from various contractors and vendors. Now is the time to finally address deficiencies in your home such as unwelcome drafts, rooms that are too cold or too hot, appliances that are too old and too inefficient.
Then LEAP has one more ask of us, and it is an important one – can we, will you, bring others to this contest? Do you belong to a church, social group, other nonprofit? Are there co-workers, family, friends, and neighbors who could benefit from saving money on their energy bills – and making their homes more comfortable? Want to make that megaphone bigger and louder? Simply put, the more people who enter this contest, whether they type “sierra” into the coupon code or not, the stronger the message we send that Virginians do care about how we use our energy.
