With the start of the Virginia General Assembly on January 9, we begin the annual competition between high priced lobbyists and the people power that groups like the Sierra Club represent. Your support for Sierra Club permits us to speak the truth of many voices to money and power of polluting corporations. This January provides great opportunities for you to get involved as an E-Activist and as an on the ground volunteer to stop uranium mining and win reforms that could finally bring wind and solar power to Virginia.
This may be the year we actually make progress on reforming Virginia’s renewable energy standards law. We are co-sponsoring a rally with other organizations like Chesapeake Climate Action Network to build a crowd that legislators and Dominion can not ignore. That is why we are urging you to Take a Day for the Planet on Jan. 17, 2013.
We need to Stop the Rip Off by Dominion that earns them $76 million from their customers for renewable energy without them really producing any. These shady dealings which we have been informing legislators about for a year were recently the focus of a report by Attorney General Cuccinelli that really got Dominion’s attention. While our climate denying Attorney General would prefer to eliminate the incentives for renewables, Dominion is finally talking about real reform and with your help we just might win. We’d like to ask you to Take a Day for the Planet to attend this important rally. Click here for details and to sign up.
WHEN: Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 10:30 AM
WHERE: Capital Square, Richmond, VA 23219 (Franklin and 9th Streets)
QUESTIONS: Contact Glen Besa, firstname.lastname@example.org, 804-387-6001
We’ll furnish bright t-shirts for you to wear and signs calling for Virginia-made wind and solar power. You can help us by talking to legislators that day and distributing our Fact Sheet on renewable energy legislation. When the House and the Senate go into session, we’ll be in the gallery to remind legislators that we are watching. We’ll also have you visit the House Commerce and Labor Committee hearing that afternoon where in the past our bills have gone to die. This year you can make a difference!
How else you can help!
We need volunteers to agree to call their legislators once a week to remind them that we need to Stop the Ripoff and support real wind and solar projects in Virginia. Additionally, we are looking for volunteers to attend and monitor the Senate and House Commerce and Labor Committees that meet on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Click here to sign up on our activist list TODAY and we’ll send you details.
