Dominion Doesn’t Get It!

Virginians Want Virginia-Made Clean Energy NOW!

In 2012, join our movement to bring clean energy to Virginia by pushing our utility companies and our legislators to make it happen. It’s a movement that we’ll need to continue building in 2012 as we especially take on Dominion Virginia Power.

With its lack of including renewable energy in its 15-year plan, revelations that its renewable energy portfolio is satisfied with out-of-state, pre-WWII energy credits, its excessive solar stand-by charges, and numerous other greedy infractions, Dominion proved throughout 2011 that it just doesn’t get it. Meanwhile, clean energy is our future – it’s thousands of jobs, it’s our health, it’s our clean air and clean water. We need Dominion to get it right in 2012 and we need you to help push them in the right direction.

Here’s how you can help over the next 3 months:

1. Carve out of the chill and find a warm spot at a local Green Drinks this winter. Each event provides a pleasant opportunity to meet up with fellow enviros and engage in lively, informal discussions about green issues all over a hot or frosty libation. There are 13 Green Drinks meet-ups all over Virginia (click here for a list), and at most Green Drinks attendees are encouraged to say a word or two (or three). Use this opportunity to talk up our need to move beyond dirty fossil fuels to a clean energy future. (For ideas, check out our quick clean energy talking points.)

2. We need all hands on deck creating the buzz now to turn folks out for an ala White House Keystone pipeline encircling of Dominion’s HQ in Richmond on March 24. Save the date and email Eileen to volunteer to help with the planning leading up to this event. It needs to be big!

3. If you haven’t already, be sure to sign our petition to Tom Farrell, CEO of Dominion Virginia Power. Tell him Virginians want Virginia-made clean energy NOW!

4. Check out our Clean Energy Volunteer Central website. The site is a resource for our volunteers working to build a Virginia Clean Energy Future. There you will find sample and published letters to the editor, lists of big public events to canvass, links to our fact sheets, and much more. You’re bound to be inspired and matched with the best volunteer job possible.
