Roanoke Valley Cool Cities Coalition

Roanoke Valley Cool Cities Coalition is THE local organization in the Roanoke Valley that is tackling energy policy and the difficult problem of global warming through education, outreach, and community actions. Over 180 affiliates (businesses, nonprofits, churches, educational institutions, individuals) represent over 25,000 people in the region.

Our Cool Cities group helps reduce the regional carbon footprint by:

* Providing speakers for church groups, clubs, Kiwanis, Rotary, school groups and others
* Recognizing Cool Citizens in business, government, nonprofits, the media and special categories at our annual All-Affiliates meeting
* Working with local governments
* Serving as the technical experts for a green business certification offered through the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce (Cool Green Biz http://www.roanokechamber.org/issues_actions/CoolGreenBiz.html)
* Distributing free compact fluorescent light bulbs to low-income households through Habitat for Humanity, Renovate Roanoke and other programs
